New Florida Laws Effective July 1, 2022
- Makes it a felony to buy, sell, or trade sexual images stolen from someone’s electronic devices. It also makes disseminating altered or created sexually explicit images, known as deepfakes, a felony, and strengthen child pornography, revenge porn, and bestiality laws.
- The statute of limitations is removed for sexual battery, certain acts of lewd and lascivious behavior, and use of or promoting sexual acts with children.
- Allows local governments to ban smoking at beaches and parks.
- Requires background checks on apartment building employees, requires apartments to maintain a log for each unit’s keys, and increases advance requirement notification for maintenance and repairs from 12 to 24 hours.
- Allows expungement of arrest records of juveniles accused of their first misdemeanor if they successfully complete a diversion program.
- Allows religious institutions to continue to meet after some state declared emergencies.
- Makes it easier for grandparents to receive visitation rights to see their grandchildren.
- Makes it easier for people who have experienced addiction or mental health conditions to provide peer-to-peer services for others trying to overcome similar problems.
