iPad DocuSign Scam Alert at Auto Dealerships – Know the Trick & Protect Yourself!
If you are buying or leasing a car and the dealership hands you an iPad to “just sign here,” STOP. You could be walking right into a modern scam that is costing consumers thousands—and they don’t even realize it until it’s too late.
What is the Scam?
Some shady dealers are using DocuSign on an iPad to trick buyers into signing contracts without ever seeing the terms. Here’s how it usually goes:
1. The dealer rushes you, saying “Just tap here to sign here, here, and here” multiple times on an iPad.
2. You’re not shown the full contract—only the signature boxes pop up.
3. You think you are signing what was agreed upon verbally or on paper, earlier.
4. Later, you discover hidden charges, add-ons, warranties, inflated interest rates, or worse.
Since it is technically a signed DocuSign document, they treat it as legally binding—even though you were never given a chance to review it in totality, as a whole document.
Why It Is Dangerous?
• You never get to read the full contract.
• You may end up financing thousands in junk fees.
• It’s hard to prove you were misled after you’ve “signed.”
• Once the deal is funded, undoing it is an uphill legal battle.
How to Protect Yourself?
1. Demand a full PDF of the DocuSign BEFORE signing anything. Say: “I want to see every page of this contract in full before I sign anything.”
2. Do NOT sign on an iPad or tablet unless you can scroll and review the full document yourself.
3. Ask for a printed version of all paperwork before you sign.
4. Take your time—walk away if you’re being pressured.
5. Have someone with you or consult an attorney if unsure.
6. Get a copy of everything you signed immediately after signing. Not just a thumb drive.
Final Thoughts:
If a dealer hides the full contract behind an iPad and a smile, it’s a red flag. Reputable businesses want you to be informed. Shady ones want you to be rushed and confused. Don’t sign away your rights with a swipe of a finger.
