Mr. Dobkin’s Office is a selective law practice. We do not accept every case or every prospective client who contacts the office. Our responsibility is to determine whether a matter is appropriate for our practice, and whether we are the right lawyer to assist.

Because every legal matter is different, we do not provide legal opinions, document reviews, case evaluations, or legal strategies based solely upon unsolicited emails, attachments, photographs, or lengthy collection of documents.

Joseph M. Dobkin

Since 1984, Joseph M. Dobkin has built one of Miami’s most respected solo law practices around a simple idea: clients deserve a lawyer who treats their problem as seriously as they do. After earning his A.B. from the University of Miami (Magna Cum Laude, 1979) and his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law (Cum Laude, 1982), Mr. Dobkin chose to practice independently. That choice means every client who calls his office speaks directly with the attorney handling their case, not a rotating team of associates.

That commitment has earned him an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest distinction a lawyer can receive from their own peers, and a place among the 1994 “Whos Who Among Outstanding Americans.” Credentials only tell part of the story, though. Clients consistently describe Mr. Dobkin as someone who listens, first, treats them with dignity, and gives them a clear-eyed, honest assessment of their options, even when that means telling them what they don’t want to hear.

Mr. Dobkin is admitted to practice in every Florida State Court, the Florida Supreme Court, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, both Federal District Courts in Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He brings the full weight of that experience to every case, from a first-time criminal charge, to a complex family law dispute, to a years-long negotiation with the IRS.

Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Dobkin has spent decades giving back to the legal community and the city he calls home. He has served as a guest lecturer in the University of Miami’s paralegal program since 1988, a judge for UM’s Moot Court and Negotiation Competitions since 1994, and a member of the Citizens Advisory Council for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Dobkin came to South Florida to attend the University of Miami and never left. Outside the office, he is a dedicated supporter of the University of Miami School of Law, an avid animal lover, and a lifelong Miami enthusiast. He believes the same values that make a good neighbor–honesty, patience, and follow-through–are what make a good lawyer.
